Zephyrgear workshop

Our Story

Built around the idea of getting it right

Zephyrgear is a small watch repair workshop in Khon Kaen. We handle servicing and restoration work for people who prefer a measured, considered approach.

How It Began

A workshop that grew from curiosity

Zephyrgear started with a collection of non-running pocket watches and a determination to understand why they had stopped. What began as a personal interest in mechanical movements gradually became a proper workshop practice — a place where watches arrive broken and leave running.

We opened to the public in Khon Kaen because the city lacked a repair option that combined genuine technical attention with transparent communication. Too often, watches were sent away to Bangkok for weeks without any clear update on what was found or what was done. We wanted to offer something different.

Today the workshop handles quartz battery work, full movement servicing for automatics and hand-winds, and careful restoration of older pieces. Every job, regardless of size, starts with the same quiet assessment before any tools are picked up.

What We Stand For

Values that shape the work

  • Honesty about what a watch needs

We do not recommend a full service when a battery change is sufficient. The assessment leads the recommendation.

  • Transparency at every stage

You are informed before the work begins, during if something unexpected arises, and after with a written summary of what was done.

  • Respect for original condition

Older watches are not over-polished or modernised. We aim to return function while preserving the character that gives a piece its history.

  • No unnecessary work

The scope is agreed before we proceed. Nothing is added without a conversation and your decision.

How We Work

Workshop standards and practice

Assessment before action

Every piece is assessed and documented before a single screw is turned. This protects the watch and gives you a clear picture of what work is actually needed.

Correct lubricants only

We use horological-grade lubricants appropriate to each pivot and surface. Applying the wrong oil is a common workshop shortcut that accelerates wear.

Timing verification

After every mechanical service, timekeeping accuracy is measured across multiple positions. Results are recorded and shared with the service summary.

Water resistance checks

Seals are inspected as standard. For watches with water-resistance ratings, pressure testing is available and recommended after case opening.

Written service records

Movement Care and restoration work includes a printed summary of findings, parts replaced, and timing results. A useful document to keep alongside the watch.

Secure storage while in care

Watches left with the workshop are stored in a locked cabinet and tracked individually by reference number. Nothing is left unattended on a workbench overnight.

The Workshop in Context

Watch repair in Khon Kaen — and why the location matters

Khon Kaen is a city where watches are worn in earnest — through the humidity, the travel, and the long working days that characterise life in the northeast. Movements accumulate dust and moisture over time, and a watch that has not been opened in a decade may look fine from the outside while running dry of lubricant on the inside.

Having a workshop that handles this locally means a faster turnaround, a direct conversation with the person doing the work, and no risk of a cherished piece disappearing into a courier chain. Zephyrgear was set up specifically to serve this need: a permanent address, a fixed phone line, and a consistent set of hands on the watches it receives.

The focus on mechanical horology — automatics, hand-winds, and older quartz movements — means the workshop does not take on smartwatch screen replacements or electronic device repairs. The skill set is narrow by choice. A watchmaker who works on one kind of thing builds a much more considered understanding of it than one who works on everything.

We work with everyday wear pieces as readily as with rare or sentimental items. A daily-wear Seiko deserves the same care as a family heirloom — it may just need a different level of service to return it to reliable running condition.
